 12-летняя Шарлотта живет в типичной бруклинской многоэтажке с мамой, отчимом и младенцем братом. Внимание родителей сосредоточено на малыше, и девочка чувствует себя одинокой. Однажды ночью в ее окно влетает странный предмет, который оказывается необычным яйцом. Из него вскоре вылупляется маленький паучок с причудливой окраской. Шарлотта, лишенная друзей, решает оставить паучка у себя, сделав его своим тайным компаньоном. Она играет с ним и наблюдает, как он растет с пугающей скоростью.

Поначалу это кажется ей забавным, но вскоре становится ясно, что ночной гость вовсе не так безобиден. Таинственным образом начинают исчезать домашние питомцы соседей, а затем и сами жильцы дома. Шарлотта начинает подозревать, что к исчезновениям причастен её новый друг. Вскоре становится очевидным, что аппетиты паука растут с каждым днем, и теперь он представляет угрозу для всех обитателей дома.

Однажды милый паучок оказывается коварным врагом, готовым атаковать в любой момент. Теперь только Шарлотта может остановить кровожадного монстра, угрожающего её семье и всем жильцам дома. Ей предстоит принять решение и найти способ справиться с ужасным созданием, чтобы вернуть спокойствие в их жизнь.
